APRIL 2001
WFERET.EXE – 733kb -- Freeware -- Windows 9x, NT WEBFERRET (v. 3.5001)
is the latest version of this multi-engine application for finding items
on the internet. Can search for matches based on all words, any keyword,
exact phrase, or Boolean expression. Uses your internet connection to
query popular search engines and returns an unlimited number of hits.
You can validate selected results, save search history, and filter
pornography and foul language. Advanced features let you set closeness
of match and remove duplicates. LIBRARIAN'S NOTE: Contains advertising
technology that will receive and display ads via your internet
connection. However, I could not find it listed on any "spyware"
list, so I think it is harmless. Ferretsoft (the developer) is now owned
by Ziff Davis who has a lot to lose by alienating users. ADDREMVE.ZIP
– 115kb – Freeware – Windows 9x, NT ADD/REMOVE (v. 1.0) is an
outstanding (but harmless) prank program that invokes a near-perfect
incarnation of the Add/Remove applet in the Windows control panel and
forces one to select OK. It then appears to uninstall every application
on the system while the victim watches in horror. Once the application
list has emptied, the user can close the program and then receives a
message indicating the nature of the prank. REGGUIDE.EXE -- 537kb ---
Ver. 3.0 -- Freeware -- Windows 9x, NT, 2000, Me WINDOWS REGISTRY GUIDE
(v. 3.0) is an informative and well-organized collection of tips,
tricks, and tweaks for all 32-bit versions of Windows. Can help you
learn how to read the Registry and begin to understand some of it's
functions. Has sections on enhancements, files, security, performance,
tips, tricks, and troubleshooting. Includes a Registry tutorial and FAQ
list. If you are interested and do not have a comprehensive book on the
Registry, this is a desirable addition to your system. It does NOT
perform any of the modifications itself, but explains how to do them
manually in a clear and understandable manner.
